Level Building 101 help

Postby Skywarp » Mon Feb 29, 2016 7:58 am

Hey All!

I would like to try out level building.

What do I need to be able to build levels? (Software, hardware, links, tips, etc...) I thought about asking on Mumble, but I couldn't find this topic in this Forum and thought if I posted something, then others could refer to this thread.

Thank you

This would be your level editor, beyond that though I don't know much:

The other modern level editor in common use is DLE, available from here:

http://descent2.de/

Most people consider DLE easier to learn since SDLDevil has its old-school MS-DOS-style interface inherited from the venerable editor Devil. From my (very brief) experience with both editors, however, SDLDevil seems more stable (DLE crashed three times while I was just trying to rename a level ... heh heh). I'd say try both of them, and see which one you prefer.

Sirius, Darkhorse, and Blarget2 are all experienced level designers who can be found on Mumble every so often, maybe one of them could help you get started. :)
